The other day, Tiffany, the girl insane enough to date me, was offered a part on Army Wives, a Lifetime television series starring Kim Delaney and Catherine Bell. You can only imagine her excitement. Today she had a meeting with the directory/producer guy (not sure his exact role or title). The part was hers, and there was no need for any type of audition or tryout.
A phone conversation from 10 minutes ago:
Tiffany: Well, I just finished meeting with the guy.
Me: And…?
Tiffany: I have the part. There was no need for any type of audition. I’m playing a girl in a bar who is either drunk or stoned and is “hooking up with” some dude.
Me: Oh…
Tiffany: So I turned it down.
Director/Producer guy: But it’s just acting…
Tiffany: Yeah, regardless, that’s just not who I am [and not who I care to portray myself as].
We try to live in such a way that no one will be hindered from finding the Lord by the way we act, and so no one can find fault with our ministry. In everything we do we try to show that we are true ministers of God.
(Did you catch that? …”by the way we act…” lol…funny.)
I hope I have the courage to stand up for what I believe in when “opportunity” is within reach like this.
Tiff, I’m extremely proud of you, baby. Way to go. I’m honored to be the recipient of your love and efforts. You were bold and confident, and I find that extremely sexy.

im on that show too right now as a server sometimes.. for that bar.. im proud of you also tiff.. thats awesome!
I’m stunned by the faith and courage of Tiffany. Jesus-following women should learn from your example. Way to go girl!
Way to go, Tiffany!
Gee, and all this time I thought actors and actresses were portraying fictional characters. Who knew they were actually portraying themselves?
I guess I’ll add this one to the ‘religion completely erodes one’s ability to tell the difference between fact and fiction’ pile, right up there with all the complaints about Dan Brown’s novels.
Negative NancyBen,It does. In addition, I often find myself mixing up left and right, up and down, night and day, vanilla and chocolate, black and white, stop and go, happy and sad, open and closed, on and off, and wet and dry.
Oh the woes of following Christ.
Ben,
Don’t be a jackass.
I’m the only one who thinks this is nuts? Everyone else thinks that actors and actresses are portraying themselves and their values in the parts they play?
Ben, come on, this really isn’t that difficult.
If you think this is nuts, which you’re obviously entitled to do, is it really necessary to interject and rain on Tiffany’s parade? This was a tough decision for her. It was a real character check. I’m proud of her and she’s very proud of herself. Your comment/this conversation is very deflating.
I don’t understand why you’d have a problem with somebody turning down a part based on the role of the character. Tiffany, for her own personal reasons, chose to turn down this role. She should be COMMENDED for staying true to who she is and how she want so represent herself, not questioned and made small for, when it comes right down to it, Ben, making the “Christian” choice.
Your comment, in my opinion, was an unnecessary jab at a very inopportune time.
I still like ya just fine, Ben. And if I know you as well as I think I do, you won’t take this personally at all. If we need to agree to disagree then let’s just do that.
We don’t really know, do we? That could be one of dozens of reasons that an actor might turn down a part. Regardless, it was her choice to make. And it’s not your place to criticize her actions. It’s not as though what she did had some adverse effect on you or any other person. I am sure that somehow, somewhere, the producers of that show will find somebody to take that part.
Yes, yes we do. To the extent that I know anything, I know that Chris Reeves was NOT Superman.
The criticism is primarily against the religion that influenced this decision. There was an adverse effect on a person; she lost a job and a possible stepping stone for a career that she (presumably) would otherwise want.
She absolutely displayed a ton of character and courage turning down the role. When you perceive one action being the right thing to do and know that so many will see this action otherwise, it is very easy to compromise, and she didn’t. I should have thought out a more lengthy comment and put more thoughts in it; not just the ‘wha?’ aspect of it.
I have never done anything with acting nor have I ever really cared to… having said that, of course it would be cool to play a part in a national television show! But the decision was easier than it would have been for an aspiring actress. And I’m pretty sure I can’t even act. No one give me too much credit.
I know you meant the sarcasm to be subtle but being a pro in it myself, I caught on.
I fully understand that the role was, in fact, only acting. I don’t expect people in touch with reality to think of it any other way. But I didn’t feel comfortable with it or with what it portrayed. Simply put, it didn’t feel right. I don’t expect most people to understand and that is completely okay. I’m not sure I fully do either. :-$ But, always the one to avoid confrontation, until yesterday I have never been very good at standing up for what I believe in. However, I think it’s extremely important for everybody to do because otherwise what would be the point in believing in anything?
Ben- You stood up for what you believe, which is clearly the opposite of what I believe. But good for you, maybe we do have some common ground after all. =d>
Maybe it got lost in translation. That reads completely different to me.
Thank you, but my situation was in no way comparable to yours.
It’s very nice to see that someone can see that even though they are “acting” it is still important to reflect Christ in ALL that we do!!!
Amen Tiffany for your courage and faith!!! Other’s may scoff, but your Father in Heaven is not ashamed of you or your decision to do what is right.
For His Glory,
Jason
Tiffany,
It’s interesting that you went this direction. While I don’t understand your logic completely, it was still pretty ballsy to avoid doing something you felt uncomfortable with. Kudos!
oh and let’s watch it with the name calling guys. No need.
Wow, havent visited this blog in awhile =)
Glad to be back.
I am so encouraged by Tiffany!
I was just posting about courage today and the lack there of.
What a bold thing to do and what an example she set to that man. Imagine the story he went home and told his wife or even friends. He may have even laughed and joked about it.
But….maybe just maybe her example will stand out to him at some point in his life. Maybe there was a much bigger plan here, more than her just backing down from a role.
I think so. I really think so.
You go girl!
Bill, your a lucky man. =)
Gretch!!! Hi!!!
Take the roll, take the money, pray thru if you have to. pay tithes.
