A special note for the FriendlyChristian regulars:
I don’t know how you guys do it. You guys are nonstop! You’re in the trenches, day in and day out…discussing…debating…sometimes arguing…sometimes having to step away out of frustration and anger. I can’t even imagine how it must feel.
See, there are a few reasons why you’ll rarely see me in a FriendlyChristian.com heated debate:
- I don’t have the intellect (I’m just being honest here)
- I don’t have the answers that people are looking for (then again, who does?)
- I know that nothing I say will convince any person one way or the other
- I don’t have the time
- And because of the above, I truthfully don’t even have the desire
So, to the handful of you guys who are battle-worn…bruised and battered, I have only this to say: wow.
Play nice. Respect each other. Learn from each other. Encourage each other. Most of all, love each other. It’s possible. It really is.

Passions…they do tend to flare! Don’t they?
I can’t speak for anyone else here, atheist leaning or not.
I can say that I have had the views I do regarding religion for going on 20 years now. Though I have only just recently started to feel some what comfortable with the term ‘atheist’… I still don’t fully like it because of the amount of baggage, undeserved I might add, that people attach to the term.
So why do I come here?
Well as I said in other posts:
All that said I do love a good debate! It gets my blood pumping and my spine tingling.
My feeling is that I have represented my personal views very well and they are strengthened when i am forced to articulate them.
Robert
I come to FC because I want to learn about how other people see the world.
It is one of the few places I can discuss religion.
Face to face discussions about religion with my family and friends is just not a good idea.
No one has been able to punch me over the Internet. Yet. :d
@Ed…
Although technology is advancing quickly…
… That, Mr. Cecchini, is how all discourse regarding religion should be. Open, honest, thoughtful, and respectful. Of course it’s harder when you’re not getting the same in return, but that is why you need to just walk away and let them make fools of themselves.
With that being said, I strongly doubt any of you would agree with my religious views… This being the first time I’ve commented on FC, all I have to say is “beware.” >:)
@John…
Good points. Sometimes it’s tough, though, when we don’t get it in return. So goes life, I suppose.
Your religious views most likely won’t be too scary. Even if they are, welcome aboard.
Thank you for the formal greeting. Pleasant surprise!!
Why do you say that you don’t have the intellect? You come across as reasonably intelligent and well educated in your posts. More importantly you seem to have an inquisitive nature that allows you to see past the obvious.
Stop putting yourself down.
:d
My views of God and what HE means to me, taken in the same perspective of what HIS word says and means to me requires me to step back from time to time, and reconnect with what is truth to me. Although the world sees it as retreat and weakness, In Christ it is strength and the very most awesome place to be. For me the only Word that has the power to cut spirit and soul, is HIS word. All others I allow to cut me, but I do have the power to refuse it. Sounds a little confusing, but if you took a chance and got to know my God it would all be clear to you. Hope you all had a good Thanksgving, and those of you not of the US hope you can think of something that you are thankful for. Or as Hover would say..Something that gives him great pleasure. :)>-
You don’t have the intellect? Nonsense! And don’t say bad things about yourself.
You don’t have the answers? Oh, you mean someone out there has all the answers?
Most people who are trying to convince other people are really trying to convince themselves. I don’t need everyone else to believe or think exactly as I do in order to be comfortable with my own beliefs. Debate and discussion aren’t about convincing or browbeating. They’re about expanding your own horizons, is all.
Now, time and desire, well, that’s honest and therefore that’s cool. Not everyone’s into it.
Bill, I think if you really feel those things you stated, you’re limiting what God is doing through you. When you do participate in the discussions, it brings alot more to these discussions. For me there is no better place to be than in the pressence of the Lord. You know that, you feel that too. He’s given you this as a tool, and says through your weakness He will be made strong. I for one would like to see and hear more from you. If you’re feeling weak, that’s a good sign. If you were pompous enough to claim to have all the answers, we’d have a pride discussion…;)
You know the same God I do…i just wish you would give Him alittle more opportunity to work through you on this site. Keep on keepin’ on!:)
