I’ve always imagined that Christians feel a lot of guilt. I’m not exactly sure what Christians feel guilty about but I’m sure it’s something. It could be a passing rude thought about the checkout girl or boy. It could be over a greedy thought of undeserved wealth. I might even be a hidden desire for one more piece of chocolate cake.
I’m sure you’ve got them.
As you know, we atheists have our guilt gland removed when we deconvert. It’s better that way because it stops all those annoying thoughts of edible babies and 24 hour orgies from interfering with our devil worship. ![]()
OK, not really but I do think that without the added impetus of a watchful father figure atheists do experience a lower aggregate guilt quotient.
So, in the spirit of lighthearted and cheeky cooperation I’d love to hear what your guilty pleasures are. Go on, you show me yours and I’ll show you mine.

I think my guilty pleasure would be anything to do with sugar. I absolutely love anything with sugar in it. Although I usually feel so crappy about eating it that I don’t know if I could really call it a pleasure.
I would also have to say doing nothing. That is definitely a rare pleasure that I feel slightly guilty about when “accomplished”.
Blogging (reading and writing them) and Famous Dave’s BBQ.
80’s hair metal, a FEW Rascal Flatts songs, sleeping in, and American Idol
I knew it! Wahoo for Rascall Flatts!
I have another one. I have a pair of blue Crocs…and I wear them.
My guilty pleasures are 80s big hair heavy metal and Robert Zemeckis movies.
I don’t understand the guilt trip thing. I’m not fundie, I’m not Catholic, and I’m not Jewish. I am therefore immune to guilt.
Bill, really? Crocs? Eww. Why?
But really what’s with all the Christian = guilt story again?
Look I feel convicted about certain things but they don’t define me. It’s something that I experience but for the most part, it’s no big deal
Btw, its bad rap music. Not “bad” as in they can’t sing but “bad” as in they don’t sing about the holiest of things.
I go along with Tiffany, anything with sugar/ caffeine or doing nothing.
And I’ll add shopping. Listening to 90’s music.
Pseudonym and K, the guilt thing is one of those generalizations that Christians just have to put up with. It’s much like the atheists have to put up with generalizations about having no morals or eating babies. /:)
I suppose it is an assumption based on the Catholic idea of confession and repentance. Never mind that the few Catholics I’ve known have done whatever they liked safe in the knowledge that a quick confession would absolve them of their sins. They suffered from very little guilt, no matter what they did. Which is something I’ll always be grateful for. :”>
blogging.
not all the time. just when the family is around and i can’t seem to step away from the mac.
and oreos.
i love me some oreos!
Yeah, I don’t so much do the guilt thing, and I HAVE been called a fundie (although I cut my hear, and wear jeans and makeup, but whatever).
I guess I always heard that guilt comes from the enemy, and that conviction comes from the Holy Spirit, so I just pray when I start to feel guilty, “Get thee behind me Satan”. Ok, so I don’t. But I should, and it sounds like something a crazed fundie like myself would do!
heather,
Great comment
