About seven years ago I had a realization that changed my life: my [tag]Christian [/tag]beliefs had given me the excuse to be mean. I never intended that to happen. I didn’t notice the day I crossed the line and signed up as a member of the [tag]doctrine [/tag]police force.
I want to encourage everyone to check out Helen’s article published on http://www.the-next-wave.org/. Just so we’re not confused, Helen is a self-proclaimed “almost [tag]Atheist[/tag].” Read more about her here.

Also check out her daily site at [tag]Conversation At The Edge[/tag]. AWESOME site!

Bill, this is very kind of you
Finally my gender pays off in Christian circles (I’m used to the opposite)…I heard a few weeks ago that Next Wave was looking for more women authors. It seemed like a good opportunity!
I’ve just added “Conversation at the edge” to my daily read list!

Robert
helen,
You were very courageous to publicly apologize.
It is hard enough for many people, my self included, to admit a mistake to your self, let alone everyone else.
Thanks Robert - I’ve been looking at your blog for the first time - very interesting!
Ed, thanks. I have to say, my family would probably tell you I could be better at apologizing :). But at least I do sometimes apologize!
I think Helen has a long way to go before reaching anything resembling ‘mean’
Let us look at words allegedly dictated by the Son of God in Revelation 2 :-
I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.
Now that is what I call mean!
Doctrinal purity was very important to early Christians….
