- At small group on Monday we’re breaking up into two groups: guys and girls. Us guys are talking about [tag]PORN [/tag]- should be good
- I’m super excited about the new [tag]FriendlyChristian.com Forum[/tag]. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out here. We’re still putting things together, but go ahead and register early here. For all you visitors who just can’t seem to get enough, this will be the place for you! If you guys know anybody who’s a pro at setting up forums, send ‘em my way. I could use all the help I can get!
- I found out that when I go back to school full-time in January, I’ll continue to work part-time at my job here. The good - I’ll only have to work twice a week. This excites me cuz I’ll be able to focus on school (bring my laptop to a park with wireless and do my homework) and actually feel like a full-time student. I CAN’T WAIT!
- I think I’m going to see [tag]Saw IV[/tag] tonight and [tag]Bee Movie[/tag] tomorrow. Anyone seen these yet? I’m a big fan of the Saw series.
- The [tag]NBA [/tag]season kicked off this week. Does anybody care?? The [tag]NHL [/tag]season has been going for a few weeks now. Did anybody even realize? What’s going on with sports these days???
- I can’t wait for [tag]Thanksgiving[/tag]. I’m gonna deep fry a turkey. Have you tried deep fried turkey? It’s amazing…and surprisingly not greasy at all!
Have a great weekend!

Porn? You mean what’s your favourite type?
Is there such a thing as Christian porn? Nuns and monks?
Before anyone takes me seriously I should point out that I am joking?
Seriously though, why are you* excluding the women from a discussion on pornography? I’m pretty sure than they’ll have an opinion too. Perhaps you feel that the chaps will be inhibited in their discussion if women are around? Perhaps there is some outdated and sexist views about protecting the women? Perhaps they are talking about something more interesting….like why you never let them talk about porn. /:)
*I mean “you” in the group sense and not you as an individual.
I hope you at least kill the turkey first.
I notice that your company is an affirmative action employer. As a white, heterosexual male in his thirties I hate affirmative action. It isn’t equality and does not promote equality. I also think that it is condescending to minority or atypical groups (i.e. female engineers) as it wrongly supposes that they require additional help to reach the same level of employment.
Do atheists ever get to benefit from affirmative action in predominantly Christian companies?
I really should be posting this in the forum shouldn’t I?
@Bill
Christians expounding upon porn? Oh the humanity!
Oh for the love of….! You know Bill sometimes I just cant figure you out! I peg you as a Good Christian, and then you tell me you are gonna waste your had earned on a piece gratuitous filth like that!? Crimony!! I’m supposed to be the godless heathen here and I won’t even waste my time on trash like that! I’m shocked and appalled!
I stopped caring about the NBA the day Larry Bird and Magic retired. It’s just show-boating now.
WHAT THE HELL KIND OF AN AMERICAN ARE YOU!?
Deep fried turkey indeed! Just like Miles Standish and Squanto enjoyed all those years ago. (Right before they started killing each other)
As quite possibly the only person here from the cradle of American Liberty and the birthplace of Thanksgiving… I judge you harshly!!! [-(

Seriously, instead of deep frying the bird , do what I do.
BRINE IT!!!
-The night before T-day
1. Fill a 5 gallon bucket half way with water.
2. Dissolve in the water:
-2 cups of kosher salt (really important)
-1 cup of light brown sugar.
3. Mince a handful of fresh sage and thyme and add it to the water.
4. Dump your turkey into the bucket and let it sit in your cold garage overnight.
5. The next morning remove the turkey and rinse and dry thoroughly.
6. Stuff it or not. Roast it in an oven at 350 for 15-20 minutes per pound!
It’s fool proof and nearly as NASCAR tacky as deep frying it. :d
R
@Robert…
First of all - =))
You’d be surprised (or maybe you wouldn’t) how Christians love to ignore the things that are beating us up the worst.
The Saw series is more than gratuitous filth. It’s a suspense thriller!! haha. But hey, at least I admit to going!
=)) =))
Great post, Robert
Plus I said I’m going to see Bee Movie too…doesn’t that even it out???
@HoverFrog
Haven’t you heard?!
Atheists are the most distrusted group in America!
That paragon of American values Ann Coulter, said something the effect that she would rather see a Muslim in the White House than an atheist!
And Christians in this country still think they are the persecuted ones.
These are the days that try our souls.
R
Oh, isn’t Saw-whatever one of those torture movies? That’s just as pornographic as anything Jenna Jamison ever starred in, IMO.
One thing I’ve been noticing — for some odd, bizarre, troubling reason, Christians just love horror and torture and uber-violent type movies. Merely anecdotal observations on my part, but I’ve always found it quite disturbing that so many Christians, most of whom would freak over an inch of visible cleavage on a woman, get positively giddy over a night of blood and guts and gore and torture and physical humiliation and pain and suffering.
Somthing’s more than a little, er, off there, methinks.
@Bill
Who am I to criticize the cinematic tastes of anyone
I am a person that still thinks “O Brother Where Art Thou” is underrated comic genius!
As for the ’slasher’ stuff… I have an aversion to gratuitous gore and images of people in pain.
Now as to gratuitous sex…. between consenting adults as long as one (or more :d) of participants is female ( While I support male homosexuality but that doesn’t mean I wanna watch it!) …I am all for it!
R
@Toni
You bring up an excellent observation that I share.
There’s a guy I work with, good person, calls himself a born again Christian. He is a young-earth creationist, reads all manner of the big name apologetics.
He and I are polar opposites on many issues.
Know what this guy does at lunch 4 days a week?
He goes online and plays one of those ultra realistic wartime games!
“Battlefield 2142″ and “Battlefield 2″
He absolutely loves the violence and carnage.
Me? I, the godless free-thinker, I like sudoku and word and number puzzles.
Go figure!
R
But enough about ‘Passion of the Christ’ . . .
@HappyNat
I completely forgot about that blood fest.
Throughly nasty!
R
…and still didn’t even get an accurate portrayal of just how gruesome and violent those beatings and crucifixions really were…
My thoughts on that
Gee, cats out of the bag…..what will we do now??? :d
Ya, well…that was the ultimate porn flick, but then, if you take a long, hard look at Mel Gibson’s career trajectory, his deeply seated personal turn-ons become blatantly obvious.
Passion of the Christ was a disgusting porn-fest of homoerotic torture gore. ‘Nuff said.
Robert, your recipe sounds scrumpo…although I have had deep fried turkey in peanut oil…yum.
Would you guys rather have Christians that acted high and mighty and inhuman that said we serve God so we never struggle with any human issues and we’re a higher breed than you are????? Geez, that was all one sentence.
:-??
I’m not sure which box you guys still have us in but it’s pretty simple. We’re human, we struggle, we know Jesus…except for the latter, we’re all the same here. I have alot of respect for Bill for being honest and tackeling the hard issues…. =d>
@Bill
Somethings are best left to the imagination.
I find it curious how when Janet Jackson’s nipple was exposed on national TV how ballistic everyone went, yet we have no problem with the proliferation of gratuitous violence EVERYWHERE, video games, television, in schools….
We always talk of the horror that jesus went through as if it was somehow unique to him.
I think there others in our history that were subjected to far worse…
R
Robert, I agree with you, the Janet Jackson nipple was nothing compared to “family hour” on TV. The news is warped, and what people deem as “entertainment” really slays me. Things just are permissable now that never should have been, which was a point I made in an earlier post. If there are no bounderies, this is what happens. It’s just as confusing to me to listen to people say things like “They’re not hurting anyone….let them do what they want.” Well, sorry but eventually it does hurt people, because when it spills over to the rest of society, this is what ya get. I think the point in this post tho is understanding that putting Christians up on a pedestal is wrong, and stand there and judge them when they struggle. We don’t like to be treated that way any more than the non-believer, and thinking we don’t have the same struggles, is one wrong perseption that is definately out there and causing division.
WOw, this kind word turns away wrath stuff really works….YAY!!!! :-c
@GG
I always see the ‘WWJD’ on various items.
I asked the ‘born again’ guy who plays the violent video games at lunch ‘if Jesus would play Battlefield 2142?’
His response was priceless…
“God, I hope not! This is my vice, I’d like to think Jesus would be immune.” =))
So yes I know that even Christians are human.
Even you InWorship!
R
Ya, we definately have our faults, and I think there are not many of us who would not state that. If there are, maybe we could have a discussion on pride????
Have a good one Robert!;)
@Robert, WWJD. Forget that. WWCYFD?
What Would Chow-Yun Fat Do?
So the belief system doesn’t really matter — it’s just a lifestyle choice, right?;):d:):x:-?
Toni, you obviously missed the “we know Jesus” part….
No. I didn’t.
You missed the point.
If you “know” Jesus, why aren’t you different from those who don’t?
If “knowing” Jesus doesn’t make a difference, what’s the point?
You’re the one saying that, except for “knowing” Jesus, we’re all the same.
Well, then “knowing” Jesus doesn’t make a difference. We’re all the same outside our belief systems (or lack thereof). Belief/non-belief doesn’t change a thing.
You said it. I quoted it. What part about your own quote did you miss?
Knowing Jesus does make a difference, it makes all the difference in the world. What you’re missing is that I am saying that just because we are Christians it doesn’t make us super human to the point where we don’t struggle with sin. There is sin…things/actions which turn us away from a healthy walk with our Lord. Walking with Him and experiencing Him is my life. I love being in His will and I am quick to repent and believe in His sacrifice when I slip up. I struggle, with everyday things…His sacrifice bridged the gap. The difference Jesus makes is I won’t die in my sin because I believe in Him……I didn’t miss my quote, you just don’t have the desire to see Him for who He is…A Christ follower doesn’t live their life for themselves, they live it for Christ…
But that’s merely your belief. Even all Christians don’t teach what you just wrote. So it doesn’t really mean anything to anyone who doesn’t believe the same thing.
Jesus isn’t a get out of jail free card.
Too many Christians who do misbehave and exhibit questionable and contradictory behavior use the “oopsies! I’m a sinner too!” excuse to blow off any genuine and sincere criticism of their confusing behavior.
You can’t be about tackling the hard questions when your first instinct is to blow them off and try to turn the person asking them into the bad guy for doing so.
It seems very disturbing to me that so many Christians who are fully prepared to judge and pidgeonhole others because of the way they dress or who they love or what they do or do not believe in are also quite unabashedly enamoured of violent imagery. That confuses me. It makes me wonder a lot of things.
But if I dare to bring up that confusion, I’m claiming all Christians have to be perfect…or I’m putting them in a box…or I’m judging them…or something. I’m not sure. I think I obviously hit a nerve, though, because you sure got defensive fast rather than look at the question honestly and with any sincere intellectual curiosity.
I also just love how you’ve now claimed to know that I have no desire to see Christ for who he is. Just because I don’t have the desire to see Christ for who you see him as doesn’t mean I don’t have the desire to see Christ for who he is.
BTW — as a Christian, you ought to know all about the unforgivable sin — you know — the thing about claiming you know when, where and how the Holy Spirit is or isn’t working. Ya, well, your big claim about what I do or don’t genuinely desire would fall right smack into that category, sister.
I got defensive….uh honestly what you are portraying here is not me. To me, from your writing you don’t appear to be a believer…if I am wrong in that please correct me. I’m not here to judge anyone. If we have a difference of opinion of who Christ is, then that’s fine. I believe Him to be the Son of God, fully man fully God, who died on a cross, bridged the gap between me and God, is the third person of a Triune God, who, because of my belief in Him has given me eternal residence with Him in Heaven. I don’t use my belief in Christ to sin, I’m saying that if we do make wrong choices, and have a repentant heart, that Christ is quick to forgive and restore that damaged reltionship that my sin made. If I’ve made you feel like a “bad guy” that is not my intention. But it is my point. I am a sinner, for me to say I am better than you is wrong….I am forgiven and I know my God. So if you are not a believer, that is the difference I am referring to.
You do not EVER know what anyone else, no matter how well you THINK you know them in other ways, truly desires. EVER. Not. Ever. Do NOT claim you know what I desire.
Do not EVER claim to know how or when or where or why God works in other people’s lives. EVER. You may enjoy saying you “know” Jesus because it’s cute and warm and sparkly and makes you go all gooey inside, but you do NOT know the mind of God.
No one does.
Do not make claims you cannot make. Do not claim to know the heart of another and do not claim to know who or how God works in others lives.
Claims such as these are why people hate Christians.
Get it now?
So you haven’t answered my question…are you a believer or not. God’s word gives us clues to help us discern…..He says to look at they’re fruit for one. I have never claimed to know the mind of God, that’s rediculous. But I know His heart and His love for me. Ya it does make me warm and fuzzy inside at times, no apologies there….I know what it says in His Word that He left for all mankind and that is what I go by. It’s pretty plain, if you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that He is Lord, you will be saved. That’s not guessing, that’s straight from the top. His ways are far above our ways I would never claim to fully comprehend anything about Him….Get it now?
“All mankind” includes people whose belief systems don’t necessarily look like yours.
Saying you believe in something and really believing in God — a God lightyears beyond your understanding, and a God who can do what he pleases whether you believe it’s possible or not — are two different things.
You leave no possiblity for God to act outside of your personal interpretation of how he may act. You condemn millions of people with your limited and flawed understanding.
When you claim to know that “non-believers” (by your definition, not God’s) are not “saved”, you claim to know the mind of God.
When you claim to know what I do or do not desire, you claim to know my heart.
You have made both these claims.
Go justify them to your god — the god you have so conveniently created in your own image.
I’m done.
I really ought to know better than to bother with Christians. What a bunch of self-satisfied, self-absorbed, hypocritical little dumbasses you are.
So I take it that’s a no?:-?
Deb, Toni, come on, don’t shout at eact other. There is room in your opposing views for debate. More importantly there is room for understanding.
Actually Hovness, I’m very calm…I don’t see anywhere here where I am shouting……:x
@Gods Gal
WOW! You did show a lot of restraint there.
I do see the merits in Toni’s arguments, I think she and I would see eye to eye on much of the issues of spirituality and Christianity, though I don’t think I would have been disposed to phrase it as she did.
Robert
Thanks Robert, I’m very solid in my beliefs and don’t need to rant….altho there are times when I reach the end of my rope…but in this case I was just trying to explain myself. To me this is the difference between understanding who God is and completely submitting to Him, or choosing to make a god of fiction to fit into what you need him to be.
So Jews have made a god of fiction to fit into what they need him to be…?
You filthy little anti-Semite. You and Ann Coulter. Hateful, shallow, stupid, insipid, ego-maniacal old hags, the both of you.
@Toni
Toni, please ease down…
There are many of us here who see these issues exactly as you do.
This kind of salvo does nothing to further the discussion. When we engage in this kind of mud slinging nothing is served.
We have to find common ground together.
I have been at this forum for a few months now. I know GG to be compassionate woman with conviction in her faith. While she and I rarely see eye to eye on anything, I like to think we have come to a modicum of respect for each others view.
Come, let us reason together!
R
Wow Toni, lots of hatred there….Hope you can get to a place where we can have a real discussion….
Robert I have to correct you friend….we have seen eye to eye a few times….including the mutual respect.
I don’t discuss things with people who claim to know my heart when it’s impossible for them to do so.
